Introduction to Archaeology in Central Texas and the Gault Site

Introduction to Archaeology in Central Texas and the Gault Site In-Person

Central Texas is a treasure trove for anyone curious about the distant past. Our region is an ideal place for archeological exploration with fascinating stories buried just beneath the surface. From surface surveys to identifying stone tools and ancient hearths, archaeology opens a window into human activity dating back thousands of years.

At the heart of Central Texas’ archaeological significance lies the Gault Site, one of the most important and well-studied prehistoric sites in North America. Located near Florence, Texas, this site has yielded artifacts that are over 16,000 years old—challenging previous timelines of human settlement in the Americas. The Gault Site serves as a powerful reminder of how much we still have to learn from the land beneath our feet.
